Your Fertility Journey Deserves Expert Support.

Whether you've just started thinking about growing your family or you're deep in the trenches of IVF, one thing is true: the fertility journey can feel isolating, overwhelming, and relentless. The appointments, the waiting, the hope, the disappointment — and through all of it, the sense that your body is working against you instead of with you.

It doesn't have to feel that way.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have been supporting fertility for thousands of years — and today, they're backed by a growing body of modern research. As a Fellow of the Acupuncture and TCM Board of Reproductive Medicine (FABORM), I bring advanced, specialized training to every patient who walks through my door ready to become a parent.

THE FABORM DIFFERENCE

Most licensed acupuncturists can offer general wellness support. A FABORM-certified practitioner is different.

Fellowship in the Acupuncture and TCM Board of Reproductive Medicine is awarded only to acupuncturists who have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in both Eastern and Western reproductive medicine and who have passed a rigorous national certification examination. It means I understand your fertility protocols — the medications, the monitoring appointments, the timing of retrievals and transfers. It means I can speak the same language as your reproductive endocrinologist and collaborate with your care team in a way that is genuinely coordinated, not just complementary.  Fertility treatment today is a team sport. As your FABORM-certified acupuncturist, I am a fully informed, evidence-based member of yours.

HOW ACUPUNCTURE SUPPORTS NATURAL CONCEPTION

If you are trying to conceive naturally, acupuncture works by creating the optimal internal environment for conception to occur. Here's what that means in practice:

  • Thickens the uterine lining — a receptive, well-nourished endometrium is essential for implantation, and acupuncture improves blood flow to the uterus to support this

  • Improves egg quality — by increasing circulation to the ovaries and regulating the hormonal environment in which follicles develop

  • Encourages smooth, timely ovulation — regulating the menstrual cycle and addressing patterns like late ovulation, anovulation, or luteal phase deficiency

  • Balances hormones — supporting healthy levels of estrogen, progesterone, LH, and FSH throughout the cycle

  • Addresses underlying conditions — including PCOS, endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve, and unexplained infertility

  • Calms the nervous system — because chronic stress elevates cortisol, which directly disrupts the hormonal cascade needed for conception

Chinese herbal medicine can work alongside acupuncture between sessions, extending and deepening the treatment effect throughout your entire cycle.

HOW ACUPUNCTURE SUPPORTS IVF AND IUI

If you are working with a fertility clinic, acupuncture is one of the most powerful things you can add to your protocol — and the timing matters enormously.

During the stimulation phase, acupuncture supports your body's response to medications, encourages healthy follicle development, and helps manage the side effects of hormonal stimulation — bloating, mood swings, headaches, and fatigue.

Around the time of retrieval, acupuncture helps the body recover quickly, reduces inflammation, and supports the transition into the transfer phase.

At embryo transfer time, acupuncture increases uterine receptivity, improves blood flow to the endometrium, and calms the nervous system during one of the most emotionally charged moments of the entire process.

During the two-week wait, acupuncture supports progesterone levels, reduces anxiety, and keeps the body in the parasympathetic state most conducive to implantation.

After a positive result, many of my patients continue treatment through the first trimester to reduce the risk of miscarriage, manage morning sickness, and support a healthy pregnancy.

Because I understand your clinic's protocol, I can time your acupuncture sessions to work in concert with your treatment — not just around it.

ENDOMETRIOSIS AND FERTILITY

Endometriosis affects roughly one in ten women of reproductive age and is one of the leading causes of fertility challenges — yet it is frequently underdiagnosed, leaving many women searching for answers for years before they get one.

In endometriosis, tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, triggering chronic inflammation, scar tissue, and pain that can interfere with ovulation, fallopian tube function, and implantation. Conventional treatment often involves surgery or hormonal suppression — both of which have their place, but neither of which addresses the full picture.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine support fertility in endometriosis patients by:

  • Reducing inflammation — acupuncture has a measurable anti-inflammatory effect, helping to calm the immune dysregulation that drives endometriosis progression

  • Improving pelvic blood flow — increasing circulation to the uterus and ovaries to support a healthier environment for conception

  • Regulating the immune response — Chinese medicine views endometriosis as a pattern of blood stagnation, and treatment aims to move and nourish the blood to reduce adhesions and improve tissue health

  • Managing pain — acupuncture is highly effective at reducing the chronic pelvic pain and painful periods that accompany endometriosis, improving quality of life throughout your fertility journey

  • Supporting IVF outcomes — for patients with endometriosis pursuing assisted reproduction, acupuncture helps optimize the uterine environment and supports the body through the demands of stimulation and transfer

If you have been diagnosed with endometriosis — or suspect you might have it — I would love to talk through how acupuncture fits into your care plan. Many of my endometriosis patients find that a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and close collaboration with their gynecologist or reproductive endocrinologist gives them the most comprehensive support available.

PCOS AND FERTILITY

Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common hormonal disorder in women of reproductive age, and one of the most common causes of ovulatory infertility. If you have PCOS, you already know that it can feel like your body is playing by a completely different set of rules — irregular or absent periods, unpredictable ovulation, elevated androgens, insulin resistance, and the particular frustration of not knowing when or whether you'll ovulate in any given cycle.

The good news is that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are exceptionally well suited to addressing PCOS — both as a standalone treatment and alongside conventional fertility care.

Here's how acupuncture helps with PCOS specifically:

  • Regulates ovulation — acupuncture has been shown to reduce the frequency of anovulatory cycles and encourage more regular, predictable ovulation in women with PCOS, giving you a much better window for conception

  • Balances androgens — elevated testosterone and DHEA are hallmarks of PCOS that disrupt follicle development and egg quality; acupuncture helps modulate the hormonal environment to bring these levels into a healthier range

  • Improves insulin sensitivity — insulin resistance is present in the majority of PCOS cases and drives many of its symptoms; acupuncture supports metabolic function alongside dietary and lifestyle changes

  • Supports follicle development — by improving blood flow to the ovaries and regulating the hormonal signals that govern the follicular phase, acupuncture encourages healthier, more consistent egg development

  • Reduces stress and cortisol — chronic stress worsens PCOS symptoms significantly; calming the nervous system is not a nice-to-have in PCOS care, it is essential

  • Works with Letrozole and Clomid — if your doctor has prescribed ovulation-induction medications, acupuncture can support your body's response and improve outcomes

Chinese herbal medicine is particularly powerful for PCOS, with specific formulas tailored to your pattern — whether your presentation involves more heat, dampness, blood stagnation, or deficiency — that can work continuously between sessions to regulate your cycle and support your overall hormonal health.

PCOS looks different in every woman, which is why the individualized nature of Chinese medicine is such a good fit. I will never give you a one-size-fits-all protocol — I will get to know your specific pattern and build a plan around it.

SPERM QUALITY MATTERS TOO

Fertility is not only a women's health issue. Acupuncture has been shown to improve sperm motility, morphology, and count, making it a valuable treatment for male factor infertility as well. If your partner has been told their sperm parameters need improvement, I'd love to work with both of you.

THE RESEARCH

The evidence supporting acupuncture for fertility is substantial and growing. Studies have shown that acupuncture improves clinical pregnancy rates in IVF patients, increases uterine blood flow, regulates the hormonal environment of the menstrual cycle, and reduces the stress and anxiety that so often accompany fertility treatment. ABORM fellows stay current with the latest reproductive medicine research — so you can trust that your care is grounded in the best available evidence.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first visit begins with a thorough intake — I want to understand your full health history, your cycle, your diagnosis if you have one, your fertility clinic's protocol if you're doing IVF, and what you've already tried. From there, we build a treatment plan together that is tailored specifically to where you are in your journey.

Most patients trying to conceive naturally begin with weekly treatments for two to three months, ideally timed to the phases of their cycle. Patients supporting an IVF cycle typically begin four to six weeks before retrieval for best results, though I can work with you at any stage of the process.

Helping women navigate their fertility journey is one of the greatest privileges of my practice. I know that by the time many of my patients find me, they have already been through a great deal — and they are hoping that this will be the thing that finally helps. I take that trust seriously. I will never overpromise, but I will bring every tool I have — my clinical training, my FABORM certification, my knowledge of your body and your history — to give you the best possible chance.  You deserve a care team that is fully in your corner. I would be honored to be part of yours.
